Stress has you down?

At least one point in our lives we will face a time when we will feel stressed or anxious. This could be due to financial problems, exams, family problems and many other things. It is proven that stress can damage our well-being not only mentally but also physically.

As this one thing can have such big impact on your well-being, it is important that we know how to deal with it. I remember when I was doing A-levels, I was very stressed! I wanted to get into university...my family and friends wanted me to get into university. The pressure was high. After it all I got in, Praise God. But I then thought to myself, was all the stress necessary, as a child of God do I need to stress like that? Ultimately the answer is "No!". Jesus encourages us in Matthew 6:25-34 that we shouldn't worry about even the basic things in life such as food and clothes, as God is able to provide us with all! This is a passage I tend to remember when I may feel anxious, for God who is able to provide for the birds of the sky and lilies of the fields, values me much more and my well-being.

In Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Jesus also tells us to seek Him first before earthly things.

One of my favourite songs comes to mind when I read this verse. "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of earth will go strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace". As we look to Jesus and the heavenly home that is prepared for us, the troubles, stresses and woes of this world will seem insignificant and not worthy of impacting our well-being.

Whenever you feel overwhelmed turn your eyes upon Jesus, know that He is watching and He WILL carry you through. Focus on the good things and leave the bad things at His feet, cast your cares upon Him for He cares for you!

"God is the potter and I am the clay."
